Merged tritium and helium data into online file. Deleted extra line in the .sum file. Made new exchange file, sent notes to Jerry.
Jerry found the file from Srinivasan with the helium and tritium. There were only station numbers and pressures to use to merge, but that worked fairly well. When merging with only sta. no and pressure the program asks how many decibars is close enough for a pressure match. I used 5db, since a quick look at the files suggested that would be adequate.
Two stations, 65 and 80 had two pressure levels that were the same.
Station 65 - 4008.9 and 4008.1.
Station 80 - 2104.6 and 2104.2
The file with tritium and helium had only one level that fell within the 5db window, 4009.0 for sta. 60 and 2105.0 for sta. 80. The merge program puts the values for the parameters being merged at all levels within the 5db range, since it can't possibly know which is correct.
The following stations and pressures had he/tr values, but were not merged because the pressure was not close enough to one in the online file.

Merged TRITIUM, DELHE3, HELIUM, NEON, TRITIER, DELHER, HELIER, NEONER.
The DELHE3, HELIUM, NEON, DELHER, HELIER, and NEONER precisions were not WOCE standard, in all cases they were off by one decimal place.
There were no flags for these data, so I set all flags to 2.

From: Zafer Top
Steve: Yes, you did bug me before about this! All data should have been public since 1998, and if they haven't then they should be!
From Steve Diggs:
I was asked the following question regarding Roden's 1993 cruise from Fiji aboard the Thompson:
"Steve, The table says P14N HeTr are still Non-Public and has both an encrypted file and a public bottle file. Data History has note from Zafer Top saying neon data is public (Aug 29, 2001) but can see no mention of Helium or Tritium. Do I need to merge the CFCs into both the Public and Non-Public Bottle files or is there chance that the data is now all public? Dave"
So, are your He/Tr data for P14N public, or would you like for them to be held as encrypted data? Please let me know and sorry if we've bugged you about this before.

We will also need two of the following three values for these data in order to merge them with our hydro file: CASTNO, BTLNBR and/or SAMPNO for each line of data
Our files are not indexed by pressure/depth.

Detailed Notes |
This is Ashwanth Srinivasan from RSMAS, Miami. Dr. Top asked me to send you the Helium and Tritium Data from the Charles Darwin Cruise 29 along 32S in the Indian Ocean. I have attached two files with this mail, Cd29he.txt and readme.txt. The Cd29he.txt file contains the data and readme.txt contains the format. Please let me know if additions or alterations are desired.

Detailed Notes |
The quality of the Ba data from most WOCE legs in the Indian Ocean turned out to be quite poor; far worse than attainable analytical precision (+/-20% as opposed to 2%). We recorded many vials which came back with loose caps and evaporation associated with that seems to be the primary problem. The only hope I have of producing a decent data set is to run both Ba and a conservative element simultaneously and then relating that to the original salinity of the sample. We will be taking delivery on a high resolution ICPMS here at OSU sometime this winter which would make the project analytically feasible and economical. I do not presently have the funds in hand to do this and so have archived the samples for the time being. I don't think the WHPO would derive any benefit from the present data set.

new hyd file contains 2 oxy changes. see note: |
Detailed Notes |
I have ftped an edited version of i05phy.txt to whpo.ucsd.edu. Here are the two changes that were necessary:
Station 41 has an oxygen of 0., at 3607.2 dbar. It was not flagged as bad.
I've changed it to a -9 and flagged it as 5 (missing). (LDT)
Station 86 has an oxygen of 0., at 4008.1 dbar. It was not flagged as bad.
I've changed it to a -9 and flagged it as 5 (missing). (LDT)
