Converted .xls file sent by Schlosser to Lynne Talley to a .csv
file.
Converted helium (their he4) and neon to WOCE units nmol/kg by multiplying
by 44596000 (see email below from Bob Newton).
Merged DELHE3, HELIUM, and NEON into online file. NEON did not have Q flags,
so I set them to 2 except for obvious bad values that were outside the range,
0,10, which I set to 4.

The units are "ccSTP/g", i.e.: cubic centimeters
of disolved helium gas per gram of seawater at standard
temperature and pressure. That is what we work
with here at the lab. There are two isotopes of
helium, helium 3 and helium 4. Since helium 3
is on the order of 1 part per million of the total
helium, the He4 measurement is (to the accuracy of
the numbers reported) the total amount of helium
gas in the water. Since there is VERY little
helium disolved in the water, we multiply the
values by 100,000,000, so that the numbers in
the file are actually in units of
cc/g divided by 100,000,000, or E-8 cc/g.
The standard WOCE units for disolved helium gas
are NMOL/KG (nanomols per kilogram). To convert from
10-8 ccSTP/g to NMOL/kg, one has to multiply by:
44596000/100,000,000

attached please find the he-3 data from the P12/S03 cruise. it took a bit longer than expected to sort out the problem with station 49. it turned out that we had to linearize the samples for this station separately from the rest because the mass spectrometer was running at slightly different settings.

Bronte Tilbrook from CSIRO has sent me new (corrected) Total Alkalinity values and quality flags for the Section SR03S04 cruise (EXPOCODE 09AR9404_1 WHP-ID P12 (S04/SR03) DATES 121394 TO 020295). I've made a merging of new data into the CDIAC data set for this cruise. I've put the final data file into your ftp /INCOMING area for you to change your data set alk numbers and quality flags.

I have received the Carbon data for S04-SR03 (09AR9404_1) from Bronte Tilbrook (CSIRO) via Lynne Talley yesterday. Although the data are not in the WOCE format, there's enough information in them to make a WOCE-style bottle file which will enable us to merge these data into the existing bottle file.

A comma separated file is attached that contains the DIC and alkalinity data for the SR3 line and the part of the S4 line we did from about 120E to meet the S4P line near the Ross Sea (CTD2 - 57). The SR3 line starts about CTD 58.
Missing data is represented by -9, the nitrite column shows all "-9". The quality control flags conform to the WOCE standard, but are in individual columns. This file was used by the US carbon group in their crossover analysis for the Pacific. According to Chris Sabine (who put the quality control flags in WOCE standards format), our data are in good shape. As far as I am aware there are no corrections applied to our DIC or alkalinity data. By the way, Chris sent me a file where he had combined the carbon and CFC data from John Bullister and Mark Warner. I guess Mark and John are giving you their data and if so, I can send the file with the CFC data in it.
I will try and get the P11S carbon data to you in the next few weeks.
For now, please do not make these data public access.

All the CTD data associated with me should be made public. I thought we had taken care of this earlier, but it appears not. I'm a little unsure how the DQE process is supposed to work. I have just corrected and updated all records pertaining to P12/S04I. This line is also know as SR03 and PR12, the *correct* expocode is 09AR9404_1 (not 09AR9508/1), but all references to the previous expocode should be retained in our records.
