2002/10/15 Uribe, K. CTD Update Needed Yes CTD converted to WOCE format, will need checking after exchange conversion

Detailed Notes
CTD was converted to WOCE format using information from the original headers and the sumfile. Because the sumfile is not in WOCE format to this time, the CTD data will need further checking once it is converted to exchange.

Date Entered Person Data Type Data Status Public Summary
2001/09/04 Bartolacci, D. CTD/BTL/SUM Submitted Yes Data received by WHPO, need to be reformatted

Detailed Notes
These data were ftp'd from Herle Mercier at IFREMER and comprise the WOCE AR15 cruises 35A3ROMANCHE_1, _2, and the WOCE current meter array ACM11 35A3ROMANCHE_3 which will also be listed as an AR15.

Data obtained are NOT in WOCE format and all files need significant reformatting. Please see email below for comments regarding data. This email from Mercier has also been copied to meta-data manager. Some questions regarding header interpretation and units scales still remain and J. Crease will be contacted for clarification (data liaison).

35A3ROMANCHE_2: roma2*****.ecc - 25 station files containing bottle data: PRESSION CHIM, TEMP. CHIM, SALINITE CHIM, OXYGENE CHIM, CFC11, CFC12
These files need to be reformatted and appended together to create a bottle file.
Missing data is represented by blanks in file.
It is unclear what scales salinity and temperature are in.
Oxygen needs converting from ML/L to UMOL/KG.
Depths are corrected (see email below).
Values are followed by "b" or "d" which could be flags (see email below), however PI indicated that "r" corresponded to questionable data. This flag system needs clarification with PI or data originator.

roma2*****.ecp - 25 CTD station files containing:PRESSION, TEMPERATURE, SALINITE, OXYGENE DISS. (in ml/l), OXYGENE DISS.(in um/kg)
All files need reformatting.
All depths are corrected (see email below).
It is unclear what scales salinity and temperature are in.

roma2.sta -navigation summary information file containing: total number of stations, latitude, longitude, station number, max pressure, date, time.
this file needs signigicant reformatting.

> You annotate each of the bottle data with b and r. I am guessing that the r may be "doubtful". Is that right?

r is doubtful indeed. For salinity and oxygen samples it means that the difference between the
given sample and the CTD value was larger than 2.8 * standard deviation of all differences with a std computed over all samples for the given profile. For the upper layers it might be related to
some variability as we use up-cast samples for the calibration of down-cast profiles. Obviously
wrong data are not in the files.

> Some Freons are negative-is that noise or something to do with "blanks."

It has to do with blanks : those freon measurements were positive before substracting the blank.

> Is the depth (fond) in the header a corrected depth or a 1500m/sec Sound velocity one?

For Romanche 1 and 2 cruises, those are corrected depths. For romanche 3 we used 1500m/sec for the sound speed.

2001/09/04 Uribe, K. CTD/BTL/SUM Submitted No Formatting required

Detailed Notes
Data for these two cruises was submitted to WHPO via FTP on July 2, 2001. The directory received contained data for 3 ROMANCHE cruises which were split according to date. The data is in ar15_d, ar15_f and ar15_m but is very raw and still unclear how formatting will procede. There was no data entry for 35A3ROMANCHE_3 on Jerry's database.

2001/05/04 Dunworth-Baker, J. CTD/BTL/SUM No Data Submitted No No data submitted to WHOI or WHPO-SIO

Detailed Notes
The only french data that I (WHOI) received for that part of the atlantic were CITHER 1 and 2 (A6 and A7). It's possible that Mercier sent data to another DAC...bathymetry or current meter. And I definitely would have remembered receiving any data less than 2 years after it was collected.
